This was my first Ironman and the weather was perfect. The morning started with half a powerbar at 230 2 more hours of sleep then I finished off the power bar and an infinit pre race drink with a bagel. Watched a little of Star Trip Troopers before heading down to transition. Almost forgot my gels and had to go back up. That was close.Dropped my bags off got the bike ready put the wet suit on and headed to the beach. I knew it would be a good swim with them plaing thunderstruck and Ironman right before the swim. The swim was on and off combat but mostly friendly. Some how the second lap was faster then the first. Out of the water and to the wetsuit strippers which was a new experience. I went right through the changing tent and got dressed grabbed my bike and I was off.The bike was hard to dial back at first but I just rode comfortably. It was hard to ride legally but I only saw 1-2 guys really riding people's wheels. Lost 5 minutes at a porta potty stop. Special needs was no problem. I was using infinit so I had a couple frozen bottles nto pick up. The out and back part of the bike sucked with the roads being rough and the wind picking up. Lost a little of my mental edgeMay have been a little low on the nutrition as I regained some fight after I put some gel away. Got back into town on a upswing and into T2.T2 was quick I did not want to get sucked into the low energy area. I changed my shorts and put some lube on the areas that were sore anss started running.THe run started off 2 fast and I dialed it back. Things were going good till about maile 10 when I started to get some lower back cramps. Got into special needs were I grabbed my replacement bottles for my fuel belt. Miles 13-16 were ok but 16-18 I had low energy. At 18 the race started so I was able to get my game face back on for 2 miles but at that point started walking more then the aid stations. I made sure that when I walked to keep my hands up and moving forward. I did this between miles 20-22. Still passing people lost count in the 30s and then I just tried to pick people off. Miles 22-26 I was able to put it back togeather and run it in.The finish was great couldnt believe it. Got my swag found my family took some pictures and got my gear. Could not believe that I had the energy to do all that.Overall I think I did well for my first Ironman. I do wonder if I could have kept my concentration and mental edge could I have gone 30 minutes faster. Hopefully find out in 09!

Kool-Aid

I had a good race over all (will post a report on Monday). I took two pics of the masters in mid speech.

Also, I walked around the Pro racks when i went to drop off my bike and found three Ergomo set ups. I will leave it to you to decide what you think. After the race i am going to post them up on the EN site. I find it hard to believe that pros head to a race with such set ups. I know it is a little windy, but the conditions seem to be looking good for the race. I woke up this morning and made my way down to the swim. The water was smooth and a pretty nice temperature. I only freaked out a few times when I saw the first of 5 jellyfish. Luckily, I found I can very easily out- swim them. Above are a few pics of the scene early this morning.

I made it through registration, got my CO2 and spent an hour on the beach relaxing with the family. The bike is together, and things are really falling into place. I am feeling really good about this race. I'll do what I can to get a few pre race pics for the site. I am headed out for a dinner with the family and then unwind with a movie, an intellectual thriller, "Old School".

Todd

PS - Another good omen, I ran into Michael from Infinit and I scored a nice Infinit headsweat visor. I am in the Condo

After an epic last couple of days, I an happy to be in Florida. I was on call 4 of the last five days. Luckily, the gods smiled on me and I was able to get a good amount of sleep. My wife and two kids, six bags and a bike arrived without an incident.

Panama City seems to be an interesting place. I am not sure why, but there are people exercising everywhere. Even my wife was a little struck by the people "really pushing" that last workout. Our condo is @ the 1/2 mile mark on the run, so getting to and from the race site should be without any issue. Now however, I am going to go to bed. I am looking forward to seeing folks on Friday to put some names to faces.

Todd

PS - Not sure if it is a good omen or not, but i ran into Frank Farrar again(met him at IMMOO last year) at the airport.

Next Post, PICTURES.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://imfl2007.blogspot.com/2007/10/i-made-it-i-am-in-condo.html' title='I made it. I had numerous people wanting to talk to me about the race which is fine except for the nerves that it brings on when you continually talk about it. We are almost packed up and ready to head out in the morning. We did a short 30 minute bike ride today with a few threshold intervals thrown in and felt really good. My parents are already in Florida in their RV waiting on us. They are our official support crew which is great.
